Dream For Your Life Blog

What are dreams? Where do they come from? Who doesn’t wonder about them? Dreams are mysterious but maybe that is part of what draws us to them. From the Greek mythological dream healer Asclepius to the more recent dream pioneers, Freud and Jung, people have been seeking guidance with their dreams. Today, there are tons of dream experts out there. I stumbled upon one of them as I listened to Oprah’s Soul Series radio program. She interviewed author, Rodger Kamenetz about his book, “The History of Last Night’s Dream.” Since then, I’ve been hooked. Rodger sees dreams as gifts and I agree. I’ve had the privilege of working with Rodger since August of 2009. This blog chronicles my experiences.

Overwhelming uncertainty

Overwhelming uncertainty

Dream: I’ve just driven to Rodney Street (where Mark and I first lived). I’m trying to get to my house but I can’t open my eyes to find my way. I am sitting on the sidewalk feeling so discouraged and helpless. I feel unable to move. I don’t know what to do. A woman...

What is real?

What is real?

Much of dreamwork happens in an imaginary place. Dreams themselves have their existence somewhere intangible. Dreamwork sessions happen in the "real world" but often it feels more like we are straddling two worlds. One is awake during a dream session so it could be...

The girl in the mirror

The girl in the mirror

Dream: Mark and I are in a car on the way to a vacation cottage. We get there and Rodger shows up bringing two house gifts with him: a beautiful plant and a home-made bread item that he tells me he made himself. I sit down with him at the table and look him in the...

Pain as a door

Pain as a door

Dream: I am in a room filled with disabled people and their families. Many of them are in wheelchairs. Each person in the room is taking a turn to tell his/her sad story. One boy killed himself and there is only a cardboard cut out there of him now. His dad is there...

Joy spot

Joy spot

A few years ago our local library hosted a lecture series. One I attended was called, “Your Energy Body”.  The topic fascinated me and still does today. In one exercise, the participants stood in a circle closing their eyes. The presenter asked us each to imagine a...

Jumping away

Jumping away

Dream: I’m with a boy (we are teenagers) and we are all dressed up to go to some fancy event. We are looking so cute together that I want a picture of us. I go to give my camera to someone to take our picture and before I can hand it to her the camera drops hard on...

A magical process

A magical process

Dream: I am walking down the street when I see an elaborate set up of fancy containers. A man takes a ball and puts it at the beginning of the set up. It’s like he timed doing this for when I walked by. The ball begins moving automatically from one container to the...

Primal scream

Primal scream

As we stepped into the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York City on Saturday we heard a heart-wrenching scream. My daughter Julia and I looked at each other with concern. Had someone fallen from a balcony?  What was going on? About a minute later, another scream...

43. I don’t know anything

43. I don’t know anything

I’d been working as a Physical Therapist for about five years when I decided it was boring. That type of work just wasn’t doing it for me. I was restless, searching for something else. Another career that would fulfill me.  Somehow I stumbled on the idea of...

42. Take this pill

42. Take this pill

Dream: I am given a pill to take. The government is handing them out. You take the pill, drink some tap water and then they do some test on you to see if there is any contamination from the water. I decide I won’t take the pill. Nobody can make me do it. How are they...

What I don’t know

What I don’t know

Written by Guest Blogger, Marian Enochs Gay How do you know? Surely all Rodger’s clients learn to expect this disconcerting question when discussing their dreams. In one dream, a father and his daughter ignore me and don’t want me near them, so I keep my distance. In...

We match!

We match!

Dream: I’m standing in front of a mirror fixing my hair. I’m about 17 years old, all dressed up looking pretty. A big tall black guy comes over to me and asks if he can help me fix my hair. I like him and I’m flirting with him. I say, “OK, how about this. I’ll fix it...

Alligators all around

Alligators all around

Dream: I am with a man. He is older and seems wise. There is a room that’s empty with tables set up. There’s going to be a presentation, but first he wants to show me something. There are alligators there with big wide mouths and sharp teeth. As I walk by them with...

Learning to speak

Learning to speak

Dream: I am with a tiny girl, maybe 2 or 3 years old. We are reciting a nursery rhyme together. She is shy about speaking. I want to encourage her because she is just learning. This is very new to her. There are others standing behind us that she seems to be afraid of...

Pity, mercy and compassion

Pity, mercy and compassion

Dreamwork is allowing me to experience my life differently. It can be subtle yet powerful at the same time. A slight shift can bring me to a new place, a new experience. I’ve been reading a book about this work called The Deep Well Tapes [written by the founder of...

Crying in the water

Crying in the water

Dream: There is a 5 year old girl crying, standing in some water. I left her there. I am walking towards her and I say out loud to myself, “Maybe she is hungry.”  There is a woman behind me that says, “Of course she is”. So I walk out into the ankle deep water and...

The teacher

The teacher

Dream: I am 15 years old. I go to my teacher to talk to him about my low science grade. I love the teacher and he loves me. As I stand there with him, I feel a strong connection between us. I don’t feel worried about my grade anymore. Next, I get my report card and I...

My boys

My boys

Dream: I hear some rowdy teenage boys outside. There's a crash. It’s dark outside and they look all shadowy. I fear they are going to do something bad. I am sitting on the floor in my bedroom and I reach over and quietly close the door so that I can’t hear them. I...
