Dream For Your Life Blog

What are dreams? Where do they come from? Who doesn’t wonder about them? Dreams are mysterious but maybe that is part of what draws us to them. From the Greek mythological dream healer Asclepius to the more recent dream pioneers, Freud and Jung, people have been seeking guidance with their dreams. Today, there are tons of dream experts out there. I stumbled upon one of them as I listened to Oprah’s Soul Series radio program. She interviewed author, Rodger Kamenetz about his book, “The History of Last Night’s Dream.” Since then, I’ve been hooked. Rodger sees dreams as gifts and I agree. I’ve had the privilege of working with Rodger since August of 2009. This blog chronicles my experiences.

Devastation

Dream: I am with a man joking around, laughing, having fun with him in his workshop. He walks outside to check something out and I follow. He is looking in a small hole in the ground that is filled with water. He starts getting upset about the implications of this...

Lying on a wet bed

Dream: A man is using a garden hose to clean a bunch of things. He brings it inside and starts spraying our bed with it. I ask him to stop. He ignores me continuing to spray the water. Now, I am really angry. I am yelling at him now pleading for him to stop. I tell...

Express

Dream: I see something that looks like a cross between a book and a computer. It looks similar to the way files are displayed on our mac. The files are fanned out, kind of hiding behind each other with the one being looked at in full view. The pages/files fly by in...

Bravado

Dream: It is night and I am walking alone down a city street. I see the shadow of a large man standing in the middle of the road ahead. He is standing with his legs apart, kind of in a threatening posture.  I walk confidently towards him feeling very sure of myself. I...

Wonder

“the world is such a wonderful place, la dee daa dee daa.... I love singing along with this line from the song, "Ode to LRC" by Band of Horses. I know it may seem pollyannaish, but I feel good every time I hear it. I do see the world as wonderful….. full of wonder. I...

Lying on a gurney

Dream: I am in a clinic or hospital lying on a gurney. The doctor (a man) keeps coming over to me to ask me how I am feeling. I am so groggy I can’t speak so I signal with my fingers showing that I am hurting just a little. He tells me that he can understand my hand...

Between being and doing

As a young girl I knew how to be. I’d sit looking out my bedroom window at the green grass in our front yard; at the maple tree planted there in the middle. Often, as I would sit and stare out, I’d have a peaceful and almost numinous sense of wonder. Of something...

Losing my girl

Dream: Julia (9 years old in the dream) and I are on a trip having a great time. She seems so independent and I am proud of her. We’re at a hotel and I take a shower. When I get out of the shower she is gone. I look in the pool. I think of diving in but the water is...

Facing into fear

Dreams are helping me to face my fears. If I can face my fears in dreams or in my dream homework, then maybe I can do it in my waking life. This theory got tested this morning as I woke up. As I opened my eyes I saw something tiny and dark moving above me. As my eyes...

Blue haired lady

Dream: I see an odd woman who is mostly bald except for some bright blue curly hair on the sides and back of her head. There is another woman standing next to me. She goes over to talk to the blue haired lady. I don’t get it. Why would she be so interested in...

The guest house

Dream: A person asks me, “Do you know the Rumi poem ‘The Guest House’?” I say, “Yes. Yes.” Most of my dreams never make it into the dream session to be “worked”. In any given session, we discuss anywhere from one to three dreams out of the fifteen to twenty dreams...

Pumpkins??

Dream: I am with a man outside on the sidewalk. He says to me “I really hate pumpkins!” I don’t react since I don’t feel too strongly one way or the other. We turn the corner and two of my neighbors’ yards are completely overflowing with pumpkins. One of the yards has...

Hula dance

Dream: I am sitting in an assigned seat next to my friend Becky. We are at a resort that has these fake, forced activities that everyone is supposed to participate in. One is a hula dance that they want us to do before we get our food that is sitting out at a big...

Dark girl

Dream: There is a dark skinned baby (maybe one year old) crying. I pick her up to soothe her. Rodger mentions that for the baby to feel her pain, I need to let her cry instead of picking her up to get her to stop. Homework: see the baby crying and let her cry without...

Breathing under water

Dream: I am swimming in a pool. Maybe I am 7 or 8 years old. As I swim along, I sink down under. This seems normal to me. I don’t need to come up. My parents are watching and are concerned about me sinking under like that so they speak to the pool attendant. The...

The man in the corner

Dream: I am in a room where there is a man in the corner crying. I can feel that he is in deep pain. I feel sad too but not at the same level as him. My friend Jane is sitting in the room at a table. I walk over and sit down with her and whisper something to her about...

Experiencing the edge between excitement and fear

In a recent dream session Rodger, my Dream Therapist asks me if I can think of any examples where I have felt that edge between excitement and fear. I mention starting a new job or meeting someone new. Yesterday I experienced another example on the ski slope. As I...

Ipod girl

Dream: I am sitting in math class. I am 15 or 16 years old. I feel a strong affection for the teacher. He really cares about us and wants us to learn the material. There is a test coming up soon so we are doing a lot of practice problems. I feel motivated to do the...
